Acupuncture

Acupuncture needles patient Melbourne Abbotsford

Acupuncture involves the insertion of ultra-fine, sterile needles into specific areas of the body to restore the flow of Qi and reduce pain. Acupuncture is not painful, and most people find it a calming experience. After a treatment, most people feel relaxed and rejuvenated, with total or partial relief of major symptoms treated.

The aim of acupuncture is to restore the balance of Qi, Yin and Yang within the body. When these elements become unbalanced, or there is disorder or a blockage in the flow of Qi through the body, disease, illness and pain are the result.

There are thousands of acupuncture points on the body, with about 360 in common use. Each point has a unique function that may affect the local area, or treat more systemic issues. Depending on the desired effect, different techniques may be used to either stimulate, sedate, or regulate the flow of Qi in the body. Other techniques that may be used to effect acupuncture points include moxibustion (heat therapy), electro-stimulation, cupping and massage.

Acupuncture is a natural method of health care, promoting the body to return to a natural state of balance. Side effects are rare when treated by a licenced acupuncturist. Benefits of acupuncture include:

  • medication free pain relief
  • effectively treats a wide range of acute and chronic conditions
  • treats the underlying cause of disease as well as the symptoms
  • promotes an holistic approach to the treatment of disease and illness, linking body, mind and emotions
  • assists in the prevention against disease and illness as well as the maintenance of general wellbeing
